Frequently Asked Questions

Is tutoring in-person or remote?

Is tutoring in-person or remote?

At this time, all tutoring sessions are remote; this allows us to offer more flexibility with our schedules and work with students across the country. Sessions are held on Zoom, and every tutor is equipped with a remote setup that allows them to write on the screen as though they're sitting right next to the student.

How does scheduling work?

We offer both weekly and as-needed sessions – and occasionally biweekly or monthly sessions, depending on tutor availability! When you reach out, let us know what frequency of sessions you're interested in.

Most students choose to book weekly sessions; we find this to be the most helpful in allowing students to feel comfortable in the classroom and confident with the material. Weekly sessions times are the only times that are specifically reserved for students for the whole school year. Beyond that, sessions are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. If you choose to book as-needed sessions, availability will depend on the tutor's schedule for that day/week. Advanced notice is highly encouraged, as many of our tutors become fully booked well in advance.

When you book your first session, you will receive an invitation to access your account on the TutorBird portal. This portal allows you to view your schedule (both past and upcoming), as well as opt in or opt out of text/email reminders for sessions 10 hours before the session time.

How can I communicate with my tutor?

Once you are paired with a tutor, Catapult Tutoring owner and administrator Jacqui will set up a group email or text that includes parent, tutor, and Jacqui. You can use this group message to send class materials, scheduling requests, and any other questions or helpful information. Please keep all communication in the group message that includes Jacqui – this helps us keep everything flowing on the administrative side of things and allows your TutorBird portal and billing to be updated quickly and efficiently.

How much do sessions cost?

Tutoring session fees are based on total session length. Rates are calculated based on several factors, including tutor and course level. As of 2024, Junior Tutors (tutors still in college) have rates from $50-75/hr, Primary Tutors have rates from $100-$150/hr, and Head Tutors have rates up to $180/hr. When you complete your intake form, you will be given the option to restrict all sessions to their agreed-upon length or allow student and tutor to lengthen sessions if requested or needed for full understanding. If sessions are extended, they will be billed accordingly based on final session length.

What's your cancellation policy?

The standard Catapult Tutoring cancellation policy is notification by text or email at least 8 hours prior to the scheduled start time. If a student or parent cancels or reschedules a scheduled session with more than 8 hours’ notice, there will be no charge. If the session is cancelled less than 8 hours before the scheduled session or does not show up to a scheduled session, the parent will be charged for the total scheduled time.

This same policy applies for shortened sessions. For example, if a student has a 1-hour session booked and the student/parent shortens this to a 0.5-hour session during the session or with less than 8 hours’ notice, the parent will be invoiced and charged for the full hour. Student-initiated cancellations and reschedule requests are included in the above policies.
